Equita Ltd and Parking Eye

Since December 2015, drivers report receiving the below letter of demand from a company called Equita Ltd.   This page explains exactly who Equita Ltd is.

Equita Ltd is a debt collection company.  Debt Collection companies write to people on behalf of another company whom is claims that  you owe them money.   However, in this instance, Equita Ld is owned by Capita Ltd which is the same company that owns Parking Eye.   Before switching to Equita Ltd, Parking Eye had previously been using an external debt collection company called Debt Recovery Plus.

You should treat a letter from Equita Ltd no different to a letter from Parking Eye.  If you have chosen to go down the path of ignoring letters from Parking Eye, then receiving a letter from Equita Ltd should not alter this decision.

However, should you still be appealing the decision to Parking Eye, or to the retailer that owns the car parking you were pinged in, then you should  continue that process.

Re: ParkingEye Limited – Outstanding Parking Charge

ParkingEye Ltd has written to you recently about the above reference upaid Parking Charge. As payment has not been receied, the matter has now been passed to Equita Ltd with instructions to recover the outsanding sum of $200.00 in full.

This could involve legal action through the County Court with any judgement entered against you recorded on the public register and likely to affect your credit status and ability to obtain credit in the future.

Equita Limited would draw your attention to the recent Supreme Court decision in the matter of Parking Eye v Beavis [2015] UKSC 67. On the 4th November 2015, the Supreme Court dismissed the further appeal lodged by the First Defendant. The appeal concerned the value of ParkingEye’s Parking Charge Notices (PCN’s) and the Judgement, granted in ParkingEye’s favour, delivers a binding precedent in respect of the sum sought, as the Court found the parking Charge was set at a reasonable amount.
